30 Days of TV - Day 5
Day 01 - A show that never should have been canceled
Day 02 - A show you wish more people were watching
Day 03 - Your favorite new show (aired this TV season)
Day 04 - Your favorite show ever
Day 05 - A show you hate
This is a sad story. Because it's about a show I used to like, and now the very thought of it fills me with stabby kinds of rage. Oh, Bones, why have you forsaken me?
You can read about my very public break-up with Bones here, but if I'm honest, I haven't really been happy since Zackwas ruined left. It's not really Zack specifically - I like the interns, or at least the ones who actually get to be fleshed out characters rather than one-note caricatures like Muslim Dude and No Personal Business in the Lab Dude. It's more just an overall sense that the show has lost its way, like the life has been drained out of it. The characterization is haphazard and subject to the needs of the plot, the concept of continuity doesn't seem to exist at all, the murder cases have gaping holes in their logic, the set-ups are increasingly ridiculous purely to create "funny" (by which I mean stupid) scenarios for Booth and Brennan (apparently, writers get a bonus if it involves outfits, it's the only explanation I can think of), and the constant hammering on the Booth/Brennan will-they-won't-they is like driving nails into my skull.
I miss the old Bones. I miss "Aliens in a Spaceship" Bones. When Booth and Brennan were very close friends, and they would never think of dating each other because they're like family. When people actually made decisions that made sense and were in character, instead of doing whatever serves the plot. When Angela was actually likable. When Hodgins and Zack competed over King of the Lab. When Sweets was an actual psychologist rather than a blatant Booth/Brennan shipper. Remember THAT show?
Honorable Mention: Heroes, which provoked similar rants on my RL blog when I broke up with it early in season 3. You know, I don't really hate shows. I either love them or I don't watch them. So it's a singular achievement, really, to have become a show that fills me with such rage. It takes quite a bit of maneuvering to get me totally hooked so that I'm invested in the show and thus absolutely furious when it completely falls apart in spectacular fashion. Well done, Show. Well done.

But I hear you about Heroes. It was definitely at about that same place for me. I remember giving up on it a couple of episodes before they killed of Adam (which I'm still bitter about, btw). I wish I could remember what the tipping point was for me when I finally said to myself, "This show sucks. NO MORE!"
Gah. That show got bad.

It's not nearly as fun as I remember it. :(
I broke up with Heroes at the end of season 1 when I realised that Skylar was coming back in Season 2 and there was no one on that show that I actually liked all that much...
*random thought of the day*
I was scrolling back up and say the item for Day 20 - Favourite Kiss.
As I'm typing this I'm watching Toby balance that ruler and it makes me want to go either watch TWW now or go stare at my Josh/Donna mood theme.
Favourite Kiss = that time at the hotel when Donna tells Josh they won some states and he kisses her. ^_^
